Hue Citadel

No visitor to Vietnam will want to miss seeing this World Heritage place, Hue. Great efforts are being made to restore this treasured site to its original glory. It was designed and planned round the natural elements in the area north of the Perfume River. Two islets in the Perfume river, Ta Thanh Long (Left Green Dragon) and Huu Bach Ho (Right White Tiger ) are considered the sentinels for the Citadel, which was built from 1805 to 1832. The massive square enclosure of 10,000 square meters in circumference and 6.6 meters of height has walls made of brick. Two story watch towers stand over each of the ten gates. The Citadel was built to hold 24 bastions and 400 canons. Standing within this national treasure, a visitor feels immersed in the glory of Vietnamese history.

Minh Mang Tomb

Hue, itself, is among Vietnam’s most valued national treasure in terms of history and heritage. Located in the heart of central Vietnam, straddling the famed Perfume River, Hue remains a historian’s dream come true, with its vast legendary attractions. The city itself is known for its beautiful women of fashion, for the local cuisine, and for the heaviest rainfall in Vietnam.

Perfume Pagoda

Hue and the Perfume River are the focus of much Vietnamese literature and are praised lyrically in many songs. To the people of Vietnam, Hue remains the symbol for romance and beauty, having been labeled by the former director of UNESCO as “a masterpiece of urban poetry.” In 1993, the Complex of Monuments in Hue was acknowledged to be a World Culture Heritage.
