Halong Bay Reflection |
Viewers will recognize many other natural sculptures of bantam hens, dragons, monkeys or massive forts. Most of the islands are uninhabited because of their small size or their sheer perpendicular cliffs. Many larger islands contain deep mysterious caves. Open to the public, these caves lure visitors along winding paths through stalactites, stalagmites and massive formations rivaling the exterior of the island.

The 4,000 square kilometer body of water in which the spectacular islands erupt, encourages visitors to explore the area by boat for at least one or two days. Boats can be hired at Halong City for wandering through the mystical forest of weathered islands far out into the sea. Bathing and swimming beaches and floating fishing villages appear on occasional shorelines. The water is clean and clear during spring and early summer, inviting swimmers. Bring a bathing suit and towel, and beverages. The boat crew will prepare your lunch.

While floating on this idyllic sea, one can watch the underwater life in the clear blue water, often spotting jellyfish or other sea creatures. Fishermen, with their colorful sails, ply the waters for over 200 species of fish and 450 different varieties of mollusks.
