Lac Village, Mai Chau District, Hoa Binh Province
| 130 km to the north of Hanoi, peaceful Mai Chau valley is a favorite destination for tourists. Muong and Thai ethnic groups inhabit the valley, and white Thai people here, especially in Pom Coong and Lac villages, host tourists and guests right in their houses on stilt. Come visit on Sundays, when neighboring minorities come down from the mountains to the market. Not only will you see their products, but sample their dishes and participate in traditional dancing.
Guided trekking is available to surrounding villages where home stay can be arranged with the H'Mong and Thai people.
Travelers also can enjoy the Muong Tribe's dance and Can Liquor in Hoa Binh Town, 50 miles from Hanoi (en route to Mai Chau Valley). The Muong Tribe has been a great part of the rich Vietnamese culture for thousands of years.
