LOCAL TRAIN: HANOI - LAO CAI
The Ha Noi - Lao Cai trains run every evening, departing from Ha Noi Train Station at 120 Le Duan Street. Three trains run at night, and one makes a day trip. The following are the trains from Ha Noi to Lao Cai (PM: SP1, LC1, LC3; AM: LC5) and vice versa (PM: SP2, LC2, LC4; AM: LC 6) daily. The daytime route offers only hard seats, whereas travelers can enjoy soft-sleepers, air-conditioning, and four-berth cabins on the night trains.
TULICO TRAIN/FRIENDLY TRAIN
Both Tulico and Friendly Trains offer comfortable coaches with soft sleepers and air-conditioning. These coaches are located on the economy trains (LC5 and LC6) which shuttle between Hanoi and Lao Cai. Price of a ticket includes a bottle of water, small snack, and napkin.
ROYAL TRAIN
Royal Train, which has two coaches, is part of SP1 and SP2 trains (economy trains). The two coaches offer air-conditioning, soft sleepers, and four-berth cabins.
LAO CAI - SAPA TRANSFER
The Ha Noi - Lao Cai trains stop at Lao Cai Station, just 40 km from Sapa. To get to Sapa, you will need to take a mini bus for about 90 minutes from the train station. The bus stops at Sapa's post office which is the center of the town. A bus ticket may cost around $2.
Tourist buses leave Sapa for Lao Cai at Sapa Church. But we recommend that you check the bus schedule at your hotel.

We recommend that you choose Tulico, Friendly, or Royal trains for faster and better service.

We can purchase only return tickets from Hanoi for the Victoria Express, Tulico, Friendly, and Royal trains. You will need to purchase return tickets when you are in Lao Cai and/or Sa Pa. You may request the hotel to order tickets for you. Be sure to give them enough time if you are going to book soft sleepers.
